Keeping Your Laptop From Overheating

With the hot days of summer in full swing, people and their technological devices are spending more time out in the sun. Unfortunately, much like humans, our devices can overheat as well.

Lincoln Spector of PC World gives several tips on how to prevent your laptop from overheating and potentially permanently damaging your computer.

Several warning signs can signify a possibly overheated laptop. If your fan is always running at maximum speed, chances are it’s having trouble keeping things cool in there. You’ll also know there’s a problem if your computer has a tendency to shut down on its own. There’s a good chance that this problem is temperature-related. If your laptop is hot to the touch, you may be on your way to having issues if you don’t already have some.

In order to make sure you are doing everything under the sun (pun intended) to prevent the overheating of your laptop, here are some tips:

Never rest your laptop on a pillow, blanket or mattress while it is powered up. Be sure it is on a hard flat surface like a desk or table. If you use your laptop constantly on your lap, it might be beneficial to invest in a cooler (a pad with built-in fans designed to whisk away heat). Also, if you are using a laptop outside, be sure you bring it inside to cool off; especially if it has been in direct sunlight. Lastly, regularly clean your device’s vents to keep the vents from clogging with dust.

We hope this helps you enjoy your summer a little more and helps your laptop last a little longer.
