As DUO Broadband scales down our television service to be eliminated at the end of this year, certain services and channel offerings will be reduced as contracts and other resources expire.
On September 30, 2024 we will remove certain charges and many channels from our television service.

We were pleased to welcome Congressman James Comer at our Jamestown headquarters yesterday to discuss federal broadband funding for rural providers like DUO Broadband. Comer spoke specifically with members of our board of directors, our staff, and Tyler Campbell, the executive director of the Kentucky Rural Broadband Association, about the importance of sustainable universal service funding.

As DUO Broadband continues to celebrate our 70th year we’ve enjoyed reflecting on how much has changed during our existence. We recently found some old employee newsletters that brought back memories, including this little article describing to employees a new thing called the Internet. We saw promise at the time, but little did we know what it would become! Here is the article as it appeared in 1995.

COLUMBIA, KY — An Adair County resident has been named a DUO Broadband Scholar at Lindsey Wilson College. Ada Gass of Gradyville, Kentucky, has received the Lindsey Wilson DUO Broadband Scholarship. Ada is majoring in nursing at Lindsey Wilson College.
The $3,000 tuition scholarship is given annually to a full-time Lindsey Wilson student in the Duo Broadband service area.

Effective with June 2024 billing, DUO Broadband will begin using our new billing software. What this means to our customers is an enhanced customer care experience and a new look for DUO Broadband billing statements designed to be an easier format to review.

Kentucky State Representative Josh Branscum was in Russell County recently to get a first-hand look at progress on the Jabez community fiber optic expansion. The project is bringing gigabit broadband to the rural area with funding from a state broadband grant and matching funds from DUO Broadband, for a project total of 6.7 million dollars. The broadband grant program that came from the Kentucky state legislature and signed into law in April of 2021 selected Jabez and other underserved communities for broadband projects.
“If there was anything good that came out of COVID, it’s that we’ve seen the importance of broadband,” said Branscum. “You start looking at telehealth, if our kids have to work remotely for school, businesses, and just the things we do daily in our homes like watching television, or just getting on the Internet. It’s just essential now.”

State and local officials, including the governor, were in Adair County this week to present much needed infrastructure grants. $7,244,132 was given to DUO Broadband to connect 378 unserved homes and businesses in Adair County with high-speed fiber Internet. The company will also contribute $3,104,628 in matching funds, bringing the total investment in this community to $10,348,760.

Due to ever increasing programmer rates from TV network providers, DUO Broadband is ending our DUOTV Streaming service. Our only other choice would be to pass along an extreme price increase (an unfortunate necessity that would probably be repeated every year). Instead, DUO has elected to help our customers transition to other reliable streaming TV providers. We will phase out our DUOTV streaming services by the end of 2023.
The good news is DUO Broadband has identified great alternatives for your continued TV service, and we can help you make a good decision for your transition. In addition, we will provide you with a $50 credit on your last DUOTV Streaming bill to ease the transition to a new TV experience.
Options for your consideration include alternate online streaming services that carry regional networks (Lexington, Louisville, Bowling Green, etc.) and major networks (NBC, CBS, FOX, ABC, etc.) such as Sling TV, Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, and more. These streaming services work similar to DUOTV — using your DUO Broadband Internet connection.

As dove hunting season is underway, this is an important reminder that damaging utility lines, even if unintentional, is against the law and can carry heavy penalties.
Already this season DUO Broadband has had to repair damaged fiber optic cable from shotgun strikes in our service area. Network outages and the expense of repairs affect all DUO Broadband customers.
Beyond the potential for criminal charges and the disruption of service to you and your neighbors, shooting birds sitting on utility lines is just poor sportsmanship — so please, just don’t.
