DUO Broadband was proud to participate in the Russell County Library’s “Community Helpers” program this past Friday. The program is part of the library’s summer Family Fun Fridays to promote learning in the summer.

DUO Broadband brought a bucket truck and personnel to let the kids get an up close and personal view of this piece of machinery. “They just loved seeing the bucket truck up close and learning about how it is used,” said Ginger Stamp, RCPL Children’s Librarian. “I saw many children wearing their DUO County Bucket hats. Little things like that make their day.”

DUO Broadband contractors installing fiber optic cable in a rural area.

U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Kentucky State Director Dr. Tom Carew this week announced two projects that will help expand high-speed internet access in parts of rural Kentucky. One project will benefit residents of Cumberland County with fiber optic Internet deployed by DUO Broadband (the other is directed toward Breathitt County). Both projects are being funded through USDA’s ReConnect program and are expected to benefit over 3,300 people.

DUO Broadband will use a $24,963,158 grant to deploy a fiber-to-the-premises network to provide high-speed internet. This network will benefit 897 people, eight businesses and 121 farms in Cumberland County.

Burkesville resident Gauge Logan-Key is the winner of the 2023 DUO Broadband Lindsey Wilson scholarship. Gauge is the son of Dusty & Kasey Logan.

The $3,000 tuition scholarship is given annually to a first-time, full-time Lindsey Wilson freshman from DUO Broadband’s service area.

Brendan Carr, Commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission visited Adair County on Tuesday to see first-hand how DUO Broadband is helping to build out high-speed fiber optic broadband to rural America. Carr said it was “Great to see the progress they’re making.”

The Commissioner reported that the “crew here in Adair County is building out high-speed internet to homes that only have copper DSL for broadband. They’re doing so with help from a 2020 award of $18 million.” As one of the first telecom’s in Kentucky to deploy fiber optic Internet, DUO Broadband was uniquely qualified to be part of this award.

COLUMBIA, KY — A Russell County resident has been named a DUO Broadband Scholar at Lindsey Wilson College.

Caroline Wells of Russell Springs, Kentucky, has received the Lindsey Wilson DUOBroadband Scholarship. She will attend the liberal arts college in the fall.

The $3,000 tuition scholarship is given annually to a first-time, full-time Lindsey Wilson freshman from DUO Broadband’s service area, which includes parts of Adair, Cumberland, Casey, Clinton, Russell and Taylor counties.

The community of Jabez and parts of Casey County will soon be getting fiber internet service thanks to two grants totaling over $4,000,000 to be matched with a DUO Broadband investment. As part of his Better Kentucky Plan, Gov. Andy Beshear announced Monday investments across the state to expand high-speed internet to more than 34,000 Kentucky families and businesses.

Tom Preston, DUO Broadband CEO, said Monday the fiber expansion will bring hight-speed internet to over 850 people. “I can’t tell you what an impact that has on people’s lives, for remote healthcare, remote learning, just a better quality of life,” said Preston. “We take great pride in that.”
